Travel Itinerary

DAY 1
Arrival and visit of Barbagia area
After arrival at Olbia Airport, pick-up of the car at the car-rental office, and departure to hotel in Fonni area. According to the arrival time visit on the way to Fonni (90 minutes by car from Olbia) we suggest a first stop in Nuoro (65 minutes by car from Olbia), the provincial capital at the foot of Monte Ortobene and the statue “Il Redentore”. A must in Nuoro is the visit of the Museo Man of the best museums in Sardinia. Alternatively for lovers of archaeology we suggest to Sorgono (50 minutes by car from Fonni) the land of the 200 Menhirs and Fonni the highest village in Sardinia and Village Sanctuary of Romanzesu one of the most precious and fascinating legacies of the Nuragic civilization. Overnight in Fonni Area.
DAY 2
Visit to Orgosolo – Mamoiada - Tiscali
After breakfast departure to reach Orgosolo to visit its many famous murals and Mamoiada to visit the Museum of the Mediterranean Masks. Alternatively, we suggest an off-road excursion to scenic Tiscali prehistoric village or the deep Canyon (biggest in Europe of Su Gorropu) on the Supramonte Mountain. Overnight in Fonni Area.

DAY 3
Visit to Laconi – Barumini – Santadi
After breakfast departure to reach Santadi. On the way to Santadi first stop in Laconi (90 minutes by car from Fonni), a charming village to visit St. Ignatius’ house and the places where he lived, the Menhir Museum and archaeological sites, the park and medieval castle of Aymerich. Second stop in Barumini (30 minutes by car from Laconi) to visit the Nuraghe “Su Nuraxi”, the only archaeological site in Sardinia declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1997).

DAY 4
Visit to Cagliari – Sant’Antioco – Carloforte – Carbonia – Porto Flavia
After breakfast departure to visit Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia (60 minutes by car from Santadi). This beautiful town is rich in Mediterranean atmosphere and offers everything you could want from a holiday: history and art, coastline and parks, comfort and fine cuisine. Alternatively it is suggested to visit Sant’Antioco Island (Village ipogeo with the punic necropolis and its cavernous tombs and the grotto houses; Tophet the ancient sanctuary ) or Carloforte Island (very romantic with narrow streets). For lovers of the history of mines in Sardinia we suggest the visit of Carbonia with its very particular historic centre and its very known Coal Museum of the Great Mine of Serbariu. The mine of Porto Flavia, an enchanting beach with shimmering colours, a jewel on the south-western coast of Sardinia, suspended between present and past, a past in which the voices of the miners still resound from the tunnels dug into the rock overlooking the sea.

DAY 5
Visit Oristano – Tharros – Bosa
After breakfast departure to Bosa. On the way a first stop in Oristano (90 minutes by car from Santandi) and Tharros to visit the archaeological site of Tharros and the Necropolis and the Museum “Giganti di Mont’è Prama”.

DAY 6
Visit to Bosa – Alghero
After breakfast visit of Bosa, one of the most attractive and picturesque villages in Sardinia and won the race as the second most beautiful village in Italy. A must is the visit of the Malaspina Castle. In the early afternoon departure to reach Alghero (60 minutes by car from Bosa), historic city at the northern end of the western coast of Sardinia, renowned locality also known as the capital of the Riviera del Corallo. It preserves well-preserved traces of Catalan domination and is also known as Barceloneta. We suggest the visit of Spanish towers and bastions, the Caves of Neptune, The Nuragic complex of Palmavera, Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju and the Headland of Capo Caccia. Overnight in Bosa Area.

DAY 7
Visit to Tempio Pausania – Arzachena – Aggius – Luras – Calangianus
After breakfast departure to reach Tempio Pausania (90 minutes by car from Bosa). After visiting the “city of stone”, a “granite temple” immersed in water and greenery, famous for carnival, cork and Muscat we suggest to proceed direction Arzachena to visit the archaeological park of Arzachena: Giants tomb of Coddu Vecchiu, and Nuraghe la Prisgiona.
Alternatively, it is suggested the visit of some small villages: Aggius a small characteristic village, which conserves and enhances atavistic traditions. In addition to the granite mining the city is also known for its beautiful carpets. A must in Aggius: Ethnographic Museum and Banditry Museum. Luras with strong agricultural and artisan traditions and a history dating back to the Neolithic period, of which few monuments remain. Luras is the house of the dolmen. Calangianus of the richest cities of Gallura, Famous for the production of cork.
